Double girder cranes are the choice for applications that need high capacity and wide spans. As the span increases, so does the bending moment the girder has to carry.

The girder section is determined by capacity, span, duty class and the permitted deflection. The weight of the trolley and hoist is also part of the calculation.
The right configuration
A wider span at the same capacity calls for a deeper girder section and sometimes a different rail system. The suitability of the building columns and runway beams for this load must always be checked.
